Wales Dessert – Welshcakes

We couldn’t possibly do a Wales week without making Welshcakes! These little pan cakes are very moreish and can be found everywhere in Wales.

We made our welshcakes based on this recipe from BBC Good Food which uses the traditional option of currants, however these are also great with chocolate chips if you’re not a currant fan! The recipe also calls for half butter and half lard, but we just used butter to keep it vegetarian and it worked just as well.

The recipe for the welshcakes was definitely one of the easiest we’ve done so far, and they were very quick to cook too! The recipe also made a lot of them, so there were plenty left over for the rest of the week.

Just remember to dust them with sugar once they’re cooked, and they’re delicious either hot or cold (but hot was definitely our preference).

Give these a try and let us know what you think!
