England Dessert – Sticky Toffee Pudding

Sticky Toffee Pudding is the perfect winter warmer dessert – a great chunk of cake covered in toffee sauce! Of course for the recipe we had to go to the Queen of Baking, Mary Berry.

The cake itself starts off with the usual flour, sugar, butter, eggs etc, but then has the addition of black treacle and milk for a really rich taste and texture. Some recipes add chopped dates into the sponge, it just wasn’t for us. Once that is all whisked and baking in the oven, it’s time for the fun bit – the sauce!

The sauce used even more treacle, with vanilla, butter, cream and sugar, so you imagine how decadent this sauce felt. Once both the sponge and the sauce were ready, it was time to dig in!

We served ours with a little ice cream to cut through the stickiness, and just because vanilla ice cream with hot desserts is always a winner.

If you’re inspired to channel your inner Mary Berry, let us know how you get on with this pudding!
